Welcome to BangkokType — a little space where I share my love for the unique and vibrant typography found all across Bangkok.

Exploring the beauty of Bangkok, one sign at a time.

  • This restaurant features two sets of signage — one being a lightbox. The main sign is straightforward: big blue Thai script with the red Chinese restaurant name mounted on tiled walls. But the lightbox is more interesting — the Thai script feels like it’s been styled to match the look of the Chinese font, creating a surprisingly cohesive design.

  • Located on Charoen Krung, this might seem like just another jewelry shop sign — but the pretty typeface really pops against the ocean blue background. Right next to it is its neighbor, a yellow Maxsilver sign that could use a bit of maintenance. They’re placed so tightly together, the contrast between the two makes for a fun visual.

  • This isn’t just an ordinary truck or minivan — it’s a rolling sticker showcase of its owner’s collection. Thai truck drivers love decorating their rides with colorful stickers, turning their vehicles into personal art pieces. I find it fascinating every time I see one fully covered in vibrant layers.

  • A clinic lightbox sign in Bangkok, featuring the familiar green and white color scheme often seen in hospitals and clinics across Thailand. The Thai and Chinese text are nicely balanced and work well together.

  • I spotted this signboard outside a home supply shop in Ekkamai. Really love the graphic design of the logo — the yellow and green duotone makes a strong contrast. The Thai font is bold and full of character, with a nice aesthetic touch.

  • Garrard Jeweller is located on Charoen Krung, among countless jewelry shops lining the street. The lightbox sign features Thai, Chinese, and condensed red English lettering against a white background – Simple and loud.

  • Beethoven Tailor Shop’s signage features both English and Thai letters with a truly distinctive style. The Latin font is ‘Jackson,’ originally made by French company Mecanorma back to 1971, and the Thai script is a custom version based on it — a perfect blend of classic and local character.

98 Soi Sukhumvit 26, Khlong Tan, Khlong Toei, Bangkok 10110

  • Another piece I’m not sure where it belongs exactly, but it’s definitely somewhere in Chinatown. The Thai font is beautifully written — clean, aligned, and well-ordered. It’s clearly something from the past. How do I know? Just look at the giant mobile phone icon — dial the number and it feels like you’re calling back in time.

  • I spotted this big sticker in Chinatown and later found out it’s a piece by graphic artist Alister Lee. What a great find and nicely designed logo — I absolutely loved it. It was originally red, but nothing beats the Bangkok heat — eventually, all colors fade.

  • Fuji Supermarket is one of Bangkok’s go-to spots for Japanese groceries. If you’re craving ingredients to cook your own Japanese meal, this place has you covered. The signage is simple and clean — bold white English letters on a red background. Memorable and easy to recognize.

  • What a unique Thai script — joyful and decorative. This lightbox is from Tha Siam Noodle Shop, with bold yellow and red as the main colors throughout the space. Bright, clear, and full of character.

  • This giant sign sits on the rooftop of a high-rise building, with a blue base and English script style lettering, decorated with a red flower as the main logo mark. It’s simple but visually appealing, especially against the city skyline.

  • Found this handwritten Thai script at Phaya Thai train station, where passengers wait to board the train between the suburbs and Hua Lamphong. The font is thin and narrow, painted in the same colors as the Thai trains, on a plain wooden board — simple and full of charm.

  • Surprise! You’d probably never guess this is actually a furniture shop. The name doesn’t exactly scream chairs or tables, but the logo definitely caught my eye — bold green square letters on a bright orange background. Simple, loud, and hard to miss.

  • Who doesn’t love a hot bowl of boat noodles, packed with fresh ingredients and rich, flavorful broth? Yum. This typography kind of reminds me of the noodles — chubby, curly, and perfectly balanced in every letter.

  • Okay, I know it’s not a store sign or a lightbox — but this vintage Mirinda product stand is just too good not to share. It’s a great example of how the brand was localized in Thailand, with a bold, well-designed logo and a fun Thai hand script. The bright orange tone makes it loud, cheerful, and totally eye-catching.

  • A nicely done sign with both Thai and English typefaces, found at a small neighborhood shop in Ratchathewi. It’s a classic old-school Thai store, with bold letters mounted on a simple wooden board — timeless and charming.

QG3H+W93, Soi Phetchaburi 5, Thung Phaya Thai, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400

  • This is a very common type of signage for small Thai restaurants — usually sponsored by a beverage brand. In this case, it’s Coca-Cola, with their logo placed in both corners. Simple, recognizable, and a design you’ll see all across the country.

  • Calpeda Pump’s Bangkok headquarters features a giant logo right at the top of the building. There’s nothing particularly special about the signage, but the mix of two different typefaces works well — and hey, sometimes size really does matter.

  • Another favorite in town — I absolutely love this shop sign. It’s so creative and unique, I honestly wish I could take it home and hang it in my living room or bedroom. Who doesn’t love the fresh vibe of citrus and that vivid pink glow? It’s like a giant poster, and it totally works.
